Aam Aadmi Party Chief Arvind Kejriwal roadshow in Varanasi

Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal today held an impressive roadshow here and took a jibe at the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate’s “helicopter” visit. The AAP chief covered the area from Singh Dwaar to Lahurabeer Chowk during his roadshow.

Arvind Kejriwal drove in an open jeep and began the rally through the rural parts of Varanasi constituency while Aam Aadmi Party supporters in white caps waved brooms, and white flags.

The roadshow was attended by Bhagvant Mann, Vishal Dadlani and Gul Panang, who also led a bike rally. While campaigning in BHU campus, Gul Panang and Raghu were chased away by a group of students. Raghu Ram was allegedly attacked today in Varanasi, while Gul Panang denied reports that she had been attacked.

Gul Panag, party’s LS candidate from Chandigarh, tweeted saying, “Things heated up during an interaction with #BHU students. Got away before things escalated. @tweetfromraghu WAS attacked. Is now safe.”

Ragu tweeted, “Oh well I just got attacked by two guys with lathis inside the BHU. They were outsiders, BHU boys chased them away. Have things come to this in Varanasi that visitors are unwelcome. I refuse to believe it.”

Addressing the people of Varanasi, Arvind Kejriwal stated: I am not only confident of the BJP losing miserably but I am confident of my victory with a huge majority. I have no faith in Modi and how would a person who comes in a helicopter for only two hours to campaign serve people of Varanasi. BJP is trying every tactic including communal, caste based politics, and bribing the media to win the election in Varanasi. I know people of Varanasi will support our movement to clean the system. I had gone to Rohaniya and adjoining areas and got the impression that 70 per cent people will support AAP. Narendra Modi is trying to exploit Ganga Arti for political mileage and politicize the issue. I performed Ganga arti along with my wife yesterday. Nobody stopped us.

In Varanasi, the earlier contest looked to be a triangular fight but has largely come down to being a straight fight between BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi and AAP Chief Arvind Kejriwal, while Congress candidate Ajay Rai seems to have suddenly fallen out of the race. Varanasi is now the center of attraction of the biggest election battle in the country. Varanasi will go to the polls on May 12 and the result will be declared on May 16.
