Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal today took a train to Varanasi to contest against BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi. Arvind Kejriwal boarded a three-tier AC coach of Shiv Ganga Express at the New Delhi Railway station to reach Varanasi.

Arvind Kejriwal is expected to reside in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, until the constituency goes to polls May 12. AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal would be interacting with ‘Aam Aadmi’, leaders from business community and social organisations in Varanasi.

“Today, I am going to Varanasi to start a revolution there. I would appeal to the people of Varanasi to help me win. To save the country, I will stay in Varanasi and Amethi. We have to defeat Rahul Gandhi and Narendra Modi to save the country from BJP and Congress. And, this revolution will start from Varanasi,” Kejriwal told reporters.

Quami Ekta Dal leader Mukhtar Ansari has withdrawn from the electoral race to avoid “division” of secular votes. After Ansari withdrawal of nomination from Varanasi, Arvind kejriwal will definitely get the benefit of Muslim voters. Kejriwal also made it clear that AAP will not take any support from Ansari’s Quami Ekta Dal.

Varanasi is likely to see a triangular contest among AAP Chief Arvind Kejriwal, BJP’s PM candidate Narendra Modi and Congress candidate Ajay Rai for the first time in Lok Sabha polls instead of bipolar fights seen in the past. In 2009, Murli Manohar Joshi defeated BSP candidate Mukhtar Ansari by a margin of 17,211 votes.

The last date for filing nomination in Varanasi is April 24, and the last date for withdrawal of nomination is April 28. Varanasi will go to the polls in last phase on May 12 and the result will be declared on May 16.
