Aam Aadmi Party convener Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday refused to accept police protection for himself by UP police with party leaders saying it was against their ideology.

Ghaziabad police on Wednesday contacted Kejriwal to provide police security in view of a threat to his life. However, Kejriwal has refused it.

“When there are crores of people in the country who need police protection, how can a single politician even think about security cover?” Kejriwal said.

“Also, it is against our party’s ideology,” party spokesperson and AAP leader Manish Sisodia said.
Arvind Kejriwal promises that elected representatives will not use  on their cars the lal battis or red beacons. He further said that candidates who win their election will also refuse government accommodation and security guards to highlight that they truly stand for the common man or aam aadmi, and will live like any ordinary citizen.

AAP sources said that the offer for security was refused on principle since Kejriwal was against politicians taking police cover.
