The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) launched its nation-wide membership drive today. The ‘Mein Bhi Aam Aadmi’ drive started from today and will continue till January 26. No fee will be involved for the membership.

In a press conference held at constitution club of India, Arvind Kejriwal said that on the first day of membership drive around three lakh members joined AAP. The party issued a telephone number 07798220033 to enroll as an AAP member. The people can SMS their details or give a missed call on 07798220033 to become a member. The AAP target is to get one crore members by January 26.

Arvind said that the TV journalist Ashutosh and social activist Medha Patkar have extended their support to Aam Aadmi Party. He further said anyone from the country can become an AAP member.

The Uttar Pradesh government on Friday decided to provide Z security cover to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Arvind Kejriwal refused to take security.

UP government officials do not want to take any risk on the security measures of Kejriwal after Aam Aadmi Party office in Kaushambi was attacked with bricks and stones by a mob of around 50-60 people. The Hindu Rakshak Sena claimed responsibility for the attack.

Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said his government will pass the Jan Lokpal bill by first week of February. Arvind Kejriwal said that a committee was formed under the chief secretary SK Srivastava to draft and examine the Jan Lokpal Bill. The committee is supposed to finally draft and submit it by January 15.

The Aam Aadmi Party government’s helpline in Delhi for complaints against corrupt officers received 3,904 complaints in the first seven hours of its launch with 53 callers reporting serious complaints. Arvind Kejriwal said that he and his cabinet will sit outside the Delhi Secretariat building, near ITO, from 9.30am to 11am every Saturday to hear grievances of citizens.
